Hello and welcome to the Hodir guide from learn2playwow.com

As you start the battle you will notice a couple of frozen npc’s in the room. Attack to free them. The NPS’s will heal ,dps and provide various useful buffs for the raid.

One of the 1st things you will notice is the Biting Cold debuff. This does dot damage and stacks up if you don’t move. So every player, including the tank, will need to constantly move in order to prevent damage from this debuff.

Players can strafe or jump up and down, whichever comes more easy to them. Dealing with this debuff is not particularly hard for the melees but it is a bit more complicated for the casters. Casters can jump in between spell casts or while casting instant spells.

You will also notice the small white circles on the floor. These basically act as a warning. Forget to move out and snow will fall on your head , dealing damage and knocking you backwards. These appear fairly often, so it’s best to always keep an eye out on what’s happening around you. Sometimes Hodir will also freeze you in place in a frost nova like effect. Getting frozen while on a white circle becomes problematic. A quick mass dispel can help though.

Another important ability is Flash Freeze. Hodir will say “Winds of the north consume you!”. Aditionally you will get a warning on your screen :“Hodir begins to casts flash freeze!”. You will notice large white circles on the floor. Get close to them.

Wait for the snow to fall and only AFTER the snow falls get on top of it. Anyone caught outside the snow mound at the end of the cast will get locked in a block of ice.

Ppl. trapped in the blocks of ice will need to be dpsed by the other players in order to get freed. Usually the nps’s are the ones getting ice blocked. We had everyone except a couple of our top dpses assigned to free however got ice-blocked. It is important to keep on freeing the npcs as they help out the raid in many ways.

Periodically Hodir will cast “Frozen Blows”. Besides doing more frost damage to the tank, this is also and AOE 20 seconds DOT attack on the entire raid. A lot of healing will be needed at this point to make sure everyone stays alive.

About the npcs: The priest will heal , dps , and will also dispel players caught in Hodir’s frost nova ability.

The npc druid will dps and cast a spell called Starlight. The starlight is the easy to notice beam of light coming from above. Players standing in the Starlight will receive a 50% increase in their casting and attack speeds. The tank can try to position Hodir close to the Starlight so melees can stay in it while dpsing the boss.

However, having too many ppl bunched up on one starlight makes them vulnerable to Frost Nova and falling snow. Thus It is a bit more efficient for the casters to stay in the Starlight.

The npc shaman will dps and cast a buff called Storm Cloud. The player who has this buff will yell:”Strom Clud on me” and will give Storm Power to nearby friendly players. Storm power provides increased critical damage.

The npc mage will dps, free ppl ice blocked and will also conjure a Toasty Fire. Players close to this fire won’t need to constantly be on the move in order to avoid the biting cold damage. Casters close to the cozy fire that are standing in the Starlight will be able to be very efficient in this battle. However, the cozy fire is fairly hard to notice and it can be extinguished by falling snow.

The 10 and 25 man versions of this encounter are very similar to eachother.
