Hello and welcome to the Koralon guide from learn2playwow.com.
Since the VOA bosses are usually PUGed , this video was also recorded with a PUG. Thus, don’t expect perfect execution. Also, this was my 1st attempt on this boss, so I did make some mistakes. Luckily for me, the PUG was pretty well formed and managed to take down the boss in one attempt.
That just shows that Koralon is, from a mechanics point of view, easier than Emalon. You don’t have to deal with one big explosion that might just kill everyone. However, Koralon is healer and dps intensive.
Koralon’s main attack on the tanks is called Meteor Fists. The damage from this attack gets split between all the targets within 10 yards of his main attack target. It is necessary that you split this damage and have at least 2 tank present, preferable 3. You can also have high hp melees, like warriors and dk’s, taking on some of this damage.
This damage splitting becomes especially useful in the last stages of the fight when Koralon starts hitting harder and harder. For a melee to take some of this damage he simply needs to get more into the boss, yet not in front of him so as to avoid parry.
Burning Breath is an aoe attack that damages everyone in the raid. He spins around and deals 4k damage every second for 3 seconds. On it’s own, this is not enough to kill somebody. However, there will be patches of fire on the floor, as always not a good idea to stand in them.
While for ranged this is fairly easy to accomplish, for melees standing in the fire is a common mistake. It is more difficult because the fire patches are just so hard to spot with 10 players and their abilities all stacked on top of each other.
Because it is so hard to notice, many of the melees from this PUG, including myself, are sometimes standing in the fire. After a while, I found that the best way to spot the fact that you are actually standing in fire is just to watch out for the debuff: Flaming Cinder.
Koralon puts fire patches under the tanks and under the melees, so, as to minimize the fire damage, it is really recommended that this boss should be constantly moved around, just like Grobullus.
Finally , the boss keeps on stacking a buff called Burning Fury. The more you spend fighting him the more he gains in power. It’s a 5% increase in damage every 20 seconds. So, at about 10 stacks and 3 minutes into the fight it starts becoming fairly difficult to heal through the damage. This PUG took the boss down at 11 stacks.
