The Real ID Issue

Blizz announced their intentions to start using Real ID not only ingame, but also for the forums.

Although among friends there isn’t really a problem in using this feature, there is a lot of controversy on the matter because this makes it easier for players (that .. let’s say you had a pvp flame with or that were kicked out of your guild) to track you down and find out who you really are and where you live.

I'm hoping that 3k+ of posts(from both us and eu forums) against Real ID will signal something. I'm hoping they will drop this altogether, but my thoughts are that they will have some sort of "checkbox" that will give you the option to use or not to use real ID.

They stole the ideea of.. Real ID from facebook and the incredible and surprising success that farm ville has. What their minds failed to understand is that farmville and other zynga games have absolutely no conflict in them, there is no pvp, there is no RAGE, there is only helping each other, flowers, sunshine and pussycats, you just grow stupid harmless crops, you don't wack somebody in the head with a big a*s axe.

Blizz ppl are no fools (I hope), no company will go through with this after enough criticism . If you wish, you can speak your mind on the matter on the blizz forums:

update: Thank you all for expressing your feelings, Blizz decided to drop the Real ID for the forums:
"we've decided at this time that real names will not be required for posting on official Blizzard forums."
